Solar tape is an important component of every mainstream solar panel, used to interconnect solar cells and provide connections to junction boxes.
PV ribbon is a key component of solar panels and is an important factor in improving the efficiency and durability of solar panels. The high efficiency and durability of solar panels can only be achieved if high quality PV tape is properly installed on the solar panel. The quality of the PV welding tape and its welding to the solar cell is an important factor in ensuring the efficiency and durability of the solar panel.
The resistance of the solder tape is mainly determined by the size of the tape itself and the material of the copper substrate. The composition of the surface tin coating does not have a significant effect on the resistance of the solder tape. Increasing the width or thickness of the solder tape can reduce the resistance of the tape. This improvement can have the same effect both on traditional soldering methods and on new low-temperature connection methods such as conductive silver glue or conductive tape connections. However, a wider solder tape than the width of the front electrode can block the incident light and cause current loss.
The part of the solar cell covered by the solder tape cannot absorb sunlight. Some solder tape companies have introduced reflective solder tape, which has a silver-plated and calendered longitudinal groove-like structure on the front side of the tape. This structure can reflect the light incident on the solder tape at an angle to the inner surface of the module glass layer, and project it onto the surface of the cell after total reflection at the glass-air interface. The captured light can generate additional increased power to the module, which can theoretically increase the efficiency of the module by about 2%.
The performance indicators of photovoltaic solder tapes all have their importance. The type of copper and its purity determine the conductivity of the material and the maximum flexibility that can be achieved with the solder tape. Flux composition, its cover layer thickness and overlay composition influence the quality of the solder joint and thus the durability of the solar panel.
High elongation of the PV ribbon is important to prevent solder joint failures between the bus bar and the interconnect tape, which can result from elongation/tension due to oscillating temperature changes during solar panel operation. The continuous and sometimes particularly strong daily temperature oscillations put the solder joints to the test during the lifetime of the solar panel (25 years on average).
